Doris reports, "We bought her a real doggie bed last nite. We didn't know if she would take to it or not. I put it in place, tossed her favorite soft blanket into it and walked away. The next thing we knew she was in the bed, curled up and snoring. No problems there. She is highly adaptable and easy going. We adore her!"

FREMONT POLICE AND S.P.A. RESCUE DOG WHOSE FEET WERE FROZEN TO FRONT PORCH

The Fremont Police dispatcher contacted Society for the Protection of Animals (S.P.A.) last Saturday morning to ask for their assistance.

A Fremont Police officer quickly responded to a White Avenue residense after receiving a call placed by a man stating that a dog that he'd never seen before was frozen to his front porch. The dog didn't appear to be able to move, he said. The temperature in Fremont last Saturday was -3°.

Terry McGrady, Vice-president of S.P.A., met the officer at the White Avenue residense and immediately took the little dog to Fremont Animal Hospital where she was treated and continues to be kenneled and cared for. S.P.A. advertised the dog in The News Messenger's Lost & Found for three days and received no inquiries.

Kizzy's "After" shot.

Dr. Reineck estimates the dog's age at about eight years old. She suffered from frost bite on all four feet and her toe nails had grown so long that they were curled under. There may have been temporary damage to both eyes from the effect sub zero temperatures. The dog had no identification and was not wearing a license.

Thanks to all who have inquired and donated.

A special thanks to "DON," Kizzy's Godfather!

S.P.A. has named the dog Kizzy (Hebrew for Cinnamon). Kizzy will be spayed and at the same time tumors will be removed from her stomach area. Dr. Reineck said the few small tumors are probably not malignant lipomas, which will be evaluated and tested once removed. Surgery won't be done for a week or so as Kizzy needs to recover from exposure to sub zero temperatures.

We are making arrangements to have her groomed sometime next week. Not only will she look better, she will FEEL better. Look for Before and After photos to be posted soon!

Kizzy is a Lhasa Apso and she is very affectionate. She appears to be housebroken, and is looking for a loving, forever home. If you are interested in adopting Kizzy, please fill out an online application at www.spaohio.org.
