Ben & Sky had been taken to the Dog Pound by their previous owners. No one had adopted them and their time was up at the pound. They faced being euthanized in the gas chamber. S.P.A. send sent out action alerts right up until their D-Day arrived at the pound.

At the last minute, Joe, a kind-hearted soul form Cincinnati saw their URGENT ACTION ALERT and contacted S.P.A. saying that he would finance their release.

They were pulled at the last minute.

Ben and Sky had always been together, according to their prior owner.

They were boarded at the vets here in Fremont for 3 weeks where they were GIVEN THE ROYAL TREATMENT (fully vetted) including a wonderful bath!

In the meantime...

I knew that Joe couldn't pay for boarding much longer, and it seemed no one seemed to adopt two want to adopt both dogs. We kept sending out action alerts, and then...

Derek an incredibly wonderful guy who runs a doggie day care near Cincinnati offered to board Ben and Sky at no charge until we could place them.

Would you believe that Derek's Doggie Day Care just happened to be located minutes from Joe, who had never heard of or met Derek? And Joe hadn't contacted Derek. It is just one of those strange coincidences.

This enabled Joe to visit Ben and Sky and even take them home for weekends!

My husband Terry and I left early on a Saturday morning in our donated older (but comfortable) conversion van to pick Ben and Sky up at the vet's office where they were being boarded here in Fremont. They were a little muddy from playing outside that morning, so an employee there suggested they receive a quick "Pina Colada" shampoo. Man oh man did their coats shine and they smelled good enough to eat (or should I say, DRINK!

We met a wonderful couple named Fred and Claire from near Cincinnati halfway. They had offered to help with Ben & Sky's transport to the boarding facility. We met them just south of Lima on a country road that I had mapped out ahead of time via Expedia. I didn't want to meet near I-75 just in case one of them got away from us, God forbid! But they road beautifully in the van, and true to their nature, sat right by each other all of the way. Everytime I looked at them, my eyes welled with tears. I felt so honored to be a part of saving these two very precious souls' lives.

We conversed with Fred and Claire via cell phones, and Fred told us exactly where they were on this road, at a little pull off.

When Claire saw Ben, she burst into laughter, just as I have every time I see him. It is so funny to think that a little boy with such short legs maintains such a high level of confidence and is so "honored" and respected by his much taller brother Sky.

The exchance went smoothly, and Ben and Sky rode off into the sunset with Claire and Fred.

Derek boarded the boys for over 2 months at no charge. What a nice guy!

S.P.A. isn't most concerned about how quickly we can place the animals we rescue. Rather, we care about it being a perfect match.

Over 2 months had passed when wonderfully loving couple from near Cincinnati saw Ben & Sky's plea for a loving home and they decided to adopt both Ben and Sky!

We drove down to Cincinnati in order to meet them at the Day Care where Ben and Sky had been boarded.

The initial meeting at the day care went very well, so we headed over for this wonderful couple's house.

They had a large fenced in yard and a really nice place in which Ben & Sky made themselves right at home.

With a little team effort, Ben and Sky are now living the good life and will never be dumped at a pound again, that 's for sure!
